Individual Therapy for Adults in Culver City, CA

You’re trying to figure out your life, and you’ve been thinking about talking to someone for a while now.

Psychodynamic and existential therapy for men and women, in person or online anywhere in California.

You might not be able to say exactly what’s wrong, only that you’ve felt stuck and unsure of yourself for longer than you’d like.

Sometimes it’s a relationship that isn’t working, or a breakup you still haven’t made sense of. It can also be stuff from your past that keeps coming up and bothering you, or the way you talk to yourself, which has gotten harsher over time. It’s common to have two or three of these going on at once and not be able to tell which one started it.

You may have been in therapy before. If it helped, you probably have a sense of what you want this time. If it didn’t, it makes sense to be wary of spending the time and money again, and one of the first things I’ll ask is what didn’t work, so we don’t repeat it.

Therapy can feel harder before it feels better, especially early on.

Individual Therapy

Helps you understand yourself well enough to find solutions to your own problems.

When stress, anxiety, or sadness gets strong enough, it gets in the way of solving problems you’d normally be able to handle. That’s a lot of what brings people in. The problem itself might be a relationship, a job, or something from your past, but the feelings around it have made it hard to think clearly about.

In therapy, we work on understanding those feelings, including where they started and what’s been keeping them going. As that becomes clearer, the feelings usually get less intense, and you’re in a better position to figure out what to do. People tend to feel better about themselves once they’re solving their own problems again.

It’s hard work, and it takes time. I don’t heal you. You heal yourself, and my job is to help you see clearly enough to do it.

I’m Dr. Colin Mattingly, I’m a licensed clinical psychologist, and I’ve been seeing patients since 2017 through my doctoral training, predoctoral internship, and postdoctoral fellowship.

Most of my practice is men in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and I also see women, couples, creatives, and adults with ADHD.

How it works

Free 15 Min Call

Tell me a little about what's been going on, and ask me anything you'd like to know about how I work.

The first few sessions

These are evaluative for both of us, so as I get to know you, you're deciding whether I'm a good fit.

Ongoing sessions

We meet once or twice a week in person or by video, and I'm glad to take calls and emails in between.

Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes and $250. I'm out of network and can provide a monthly superbill for possible partial reimbursement, depending on your plan.

Location

11600 Washington Place, Suite 202E, Culver City, and online anywhere in California

The first call is where I hear what’s been going on, and you get to ask me anything.

I’ll ask what brought you to reach out and whether you’ve been in therapy before, including what worked and what didn’t. You can ask me how I work, what sessions look like, or anything else you’d want to know before deciding. If I don’t think I’m the right person to help, I’m happy to point you toward someone who might be.

Take your time to think things through. There’s no rush, and if any questions come up later on, don’t hesitate to reach out.
